Jackson State University football player Keonte Hampton has been selected as a Hero Sports FCS Preseason All-American.

Hampton, a West Point, Mississippi, native and a Conerly Trophy finalist, totaled 106 tackles and a league-high 69 solo stops last season for the Tigers. The two-time SWAC Defensive Player of the Week had 4.5 sacks and averaged 8.8 tackles per game.

Hampton has been a key player for the Tiger’s defense ever since he arrived at JSU in 2018. He racked up 61 tackles that season after appearing in 10 games and becoming a true freshman.

The 6-foot-1, 220-pounder was also named the 2019 SWAC Defensive Player of the Year and was voted to the 2019 SWAC First Team.

JSU suffered a tough 4-8 season last year, but with great players such as Hampton returning, the Tigers can look forward to a better and stronger team for the upcoming football season.

The Tigers begin their season against Langston University Sept. 5, 2020, in Jackson.
