James Mural Carpenter, 1947-2023

James Mural Carpenter went home to his Heavenly father on August 25, 2023, at the age of 76.

Mural was born on August 7, 1947, the son of John Willis Carpenter and Inez Leigh Carpenter. He was a carpenter by trade and was a partner in Rajam, Inc. He was very involved in racing and built race cars. He was veteran of the U.S. Army. He was very active in Goodrum Baptist Church. He loved his family and was greatly loved by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son James Dwain Carpenter; sister Virginia Leigh and brother Galon Carpenter.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Janice Carter Carpenter, son Edward A. Chapman; daughter Melissa Honerlah (Hans); brothers David Carpenter (Mary) and Gardner Carpenter (Sharon); seven grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023, at Goodrum Baptist Church. The service will be officiated by Bro. Tony Monk and Bro. Dwight Sibley. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of the service. Burial be at 1:00 p.m. in Northeast Louisiana Veteran Cemetery, 2413 Hwy 425, Rayville, LA 71269.

Pallbearers will be Gary Vines, John Ledbetter, Ricky Williams, Neil Howard, Scott McClellan, Hans Honerlah, Jordan Holley and Dane Davenport. Honorary pallbearers will be family and friends, partners in Rajam and his Goodrum church family.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospice.
