James Winters sentenced for the 2020 murder of Wade Carter
James Earl Winters was sentenced in the Warren County Circuit Court on Friday for the 2020 murder of Wade Carter. Carter was 31 years of age.
Judge James Chaney sentenced Winters to 20 years, with 15 to serve.
Winters pleaded guilty to a manslaughter charge, where he was accused of shooting and killing Wade Carter at LD’s Kitchen in October 2020. He was on the run for nearly four months before being captured on Jan. 21, 2021.
Winters was represented by Mike Bonner, while Prosecutor Michael Warren represented the state of Mississippi in this case. Warren requested that Winters be sentenced to 40 years after testimony from the mother of Carter’s child, but he was eventually given a 15-year sentence.
