Jannifer Banks is now cheering for Jackson State University
Former Vicksburg High School cheerleader Jannifer Katelin Banks is now cheering at Jackson State University.
Banks, who is the daughter of Marshall and Jannifer Banks, began gymnastics at a young age which led to her cheering by the time she entered seventh grade. She was cheering for both the basketball and football team at VHS and was also voted as homecoming queen.
“I just love pumping up the crowd and the whole atmosphere of cheering is great and cheer is also where I met some of my closest friends at,” Banks said
After graduating from VHS, Banks decided to take her talents to JSU as a football cheerleader and a civil engineering major.
“Both of my parents went to HBCU’s and I told myself, ‘why not go to the best HBCU in the world’, so that’s how I landed here,” said Banks.
Last Sunday, Banks cheered in her first collegiate game in Miami, Florida when the Tigers defeated Florida A&M 59-3.
“Being on that field felt amazing and it was like I turned my dreams into a reality but I was very fortunate to experience my first game in Miami,” Banks stated.
Jackson State will play in Memphis this Saturday against Tennessee State University where fans can catch Banks on the field cheering for the Tigers.
