Jimmy Carter hospitalized for fractured pelvis
Former President Jimmy Carter, 95, has been hospitalized after falling in his home Monday evening and fracturing his pelvis.
”He has been admitted to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center for observation and treatment of a minor pelvic fracture,” the Carter Center tweeted this morning. “He is in good spirits and is looking forward to recovering at home.”
Carter is the oldest living former president of the United States. He is the founder and driving force behind Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization that has helped more than 4 million people construct, rehabilitate or preserve more than 800,000 homes for low-income people since its founding in 1976.
This most recent fall is his third this year. He had surgery to repair a broken hip in May, and earlier this month, a fall resulted in a black eye and 14 stitches in his head. He is also a cancer survivor.
“It’s hard to live until you’re 95 years old,” he told People magazine earlier this month. “I think the best explanation for that is to marry the best spouse: someone who will take care of you and engage and do things to challenge you and keep you alive and interested in life.”
Carter and his wife, Rosalyn, have been married 73 years. She is 92.
