Jimmy Layne Holmes, Sr., 1951 – 2023

Jimmy Layne Holmes, Sr., 72, of Utica, MS, passed away on June 12, 2023, surrounded by his family. Jimmy was born on April 22, 1951, in Virginia.

He is survived by his 2 sons and daughter, Jimmy Layne Holmes, Jr. (Courtney Boone Holmes), Henry Isaac Holmes (Tara Purviance Holmes), and Angie Clarke (Aubrey Clarke); his 4 grandchildren – Christopher Blake Holmes, Tiffany Nicole Clarke, Cameron Holden Holmes and Laynie Clair Holmes. He is also survived by his brothers Larry Holmes and Greg Holmes and many nieces and nephews.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, John Willie “Bear” Holmes and Mary Frances Holmes, and his siblings, John William Holmes and Brenda Kinchen.

Jimmy was strong willed and stubborn at times with an enormous heart and love for his family. He was generous, loyal, and brave. These traits defined him, and his strength undoubtedly helped him as he battled cancer. Heh was a passionate hunter and fisherman, brilliant contractor, and avid gardener and loved to share his knowledge of all these topics with his family and friends.

He will be remembered for all the love he shared with his sons, grandchildren, siblings, and nephews. He truly loved each of them. And if you knew him, you knew it. When he departed, he left a legacy of love that will be felt for generations to come. He will be missed dearly.

A celebration of Jimmy’s life will be Friday, June 16, 2023, from 3:00pm – 6:00pm at his home. A graveside service will be held for the family on June 24, 2023 at the Utica Cemetery.
