Warren County Emergency Management Director John Elfer spoke with Vicksburg Daily News on the incoming weather that is due to hit the area Friday.

The Vicksburg area is likely to see about three rounds of severe weather around the area, with the biggest threat being strong winds.

Winds are expected to reach around 80 miles per hour and the area could potentially be struck with baseball-sized hail.

Elfer stated that the Vicksburg area had been spared recently from the forecast of severe weather but did not want people to write the upcoming forecast off. “I don’t want people to become complacent and say ‘oh it’s just another false alarm’ because… I hope we don’t get any bad weather… but, as we’ve said before, hope is not a good method of emergency planning.”

Elfer wants people to pay attention to changing conditions and monitor local weather reports. He also states that everyone should have a plan on what to do in the event of severe weather.
