Johnny Sims, Jr., 1950 -2023

Johnny Sims, Jr., was born September 15, 1950, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, to the late Ruth and Johnny Sims, Sr.

Johnny confessed Christ at an early age and was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church of Freetown. Johnny attended Rosa A. Temple High School. He dedicated forty years to Ergon before retiring. Johnny Sims, Jr., was passionate about fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was also very competitive on the pool table and card table; his competitiveness led to countless years of hosting the card games with the “Boys” and often reminding everyone that he was the “the BEST.” Johnny also enjoyed spending time with his wife and family sitting “on the hill.” He was a diehard Green Bay Packers fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Johnny Sims, Sr.; youngest son, Stanford Kidd Sims; son, Derrick Fitsgerald Sims; sister, Johnnie Mae Tucker; brother, Bobby Sims; and son-in-law, Curby Truitt.

Johnny leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Pauline Sims; daughter, Jenophia Truitt; sons, Johnny Smith (Dawn), Derrick Gardner (Ebony), Kenneth Sims, and Korey Sims, all of Vicksburg; brother, James Sims (Helen) of Jackson, MS; sisters, Betty Anderson of Houston, TX, and JoAnn Walker, Ruby Lee Anderson, Annie Sims, and Darlene Sims, all of Vicksburg; one aunt, Artimease Clayton; nine grandchildren; ve great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including Edward Brown of New Orleans, LA, his right hand man, Albert Sims, Jr. (Bird), Ethel Ruth Gardner and family, and the Hebrons, Sims, and Smiths families.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Johnny Sims, Jr. on March 16, 2023, 11:00 AM at Greater Grove Street M. B. Church, 2715 Alcorn, Dr., Vicksburg, MS.

Visitation will be held at C J Williams Mortuary Services, 4310 Halls Ferry Road, Vicksburg, MS on March 15, 2023 from 2:00 – 6:00 PM with family present from 5:00 – 6:00 PM.
