Jones County homicide victim was the mother of Vicksburg resident

The mother of Vicksburg resident Tina Daugherty-Cole was the victim of an apparent homicide Monday afternoon.

Jones County authorities are investigating the death of 82-year-old Betty Lou Dickerson. Dickerson’s 2016 Toyota Camry with a Jones County tag number JND 6090 was taken from her residence in the Shady Grove Community.

“An active, exhaustive investigation is underway by the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and we will not rest until the person or persons responsible for Ms. Dickerson’s murder are apprehended,” Sheriff Joe Berlin told WJTV. “Further information will be released as possible. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ms. Dickerson’s family and we ask that our entire community join in praying for them as well.”

The U.S. Marshals Service has joined the efforts to locate and apprehend the suspects. There are reports that there was a sighting of the vehicle today in Georgia.
