Judge Chaney sentences child molester to 20 years
A Vicksburg man was sentenced to 20 years by Judge M. James Chaney for molesting an 8-year-old boy in 2017.
On December 23, 2017, at 2:08 p.m., police were called to Merit Health River Region Medical Center about the sexual assault of a child. An 8-year-old boy had told his mom that Jerrell Oliver had played with his private parts. She took the 8-year-old to the hospital to be examined.
After an investigation, Oliver was arrested on January 11, 2018.
On June 27, 2019, Oliver pled guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 20 years — five served and 15 suspended. Oliver will register as a sex offender and have numerous restrictions on his movement and lifestyle after serving his initial time.
