June Morrison Yates passed away at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center on Friday, September 16, 2022. She was 87.

Mrs. Yates was born on January 3, 1935, in Utica, MS to the late Emory Lee Morrison, Jr. and Ione Mathews Morrison. She graduated from Utica High School and attended Hinds Community College. On January 8, 1955, she married Frederick LeGrand Yates, Jr. and they settled in the Cayuga Community of Southwest Hinds County.

She was an active member of the Utica United Methodist Church, serving in several leadership positions including Chairman of the Administrative Board, longtime Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was also a longtime member and past president of the Utica 20th Century Club.

In addition to her parents and husband, who passed away in 2015, she was preceded in death by her loving grandson, Dan Yates, sisters Linda Morrison and Sybil Kitchens, and brother Gene Morrison. Mrs. Yates is survived by her son, Dale Yates, and daughter, Laurin Yates, both of Utica; two grandsons, Stephen Yates (Sara) of Florence and Lee Yates of Vicksburg; three great-grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Yates of Florence and Atticus Yates and Tatum Yates of Vicksburg.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 20 at 10:30 at the Utica United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held Monday, September 19 from 5:00-7:00 at the Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg and from 9:30 until the hour of the service on Tuesday at the church. Burial will follow the service at the Cayuga Cemetery.

Mrs. Yates’ nephews, David Morrison, Gary Morrison, Roy Yates, Brett Oleis, Chris Purviance, and Caleb Field will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Price, Tony Cain, Richard Price, and Bob Hinton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Cayuga Cemetery Association, 6268 Old Port Gibson Road, Utica, MS 39175 or the Utica United Methodist Church, PO Box 308, Utica, MS 39175.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Robert McGee and the staff at Jackson Pulmonary Associates for their care over the last several years. We also want to thank the nurses and therapists at Kindred Home Health for the kindness, care, and affection shown to her.
