Juneteenth celebration is underway

Vicksburg kicked off its Juneteenth celebration event at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The event started at 10 a.m. at the Vicksburg City Park and Pavilion at 100 Army Navy Drive and is welcoming in anyone and everyone who wants to join in the celebration of a historic Juneteenth holiday.

Many have taken the opportunity to join in the festivities including South Ward Alderman Alex Monsour who was in attendance at the start of the event Saturday morning.
After the event was set in motion by the drum call and in-gathering, the libation from Mrs. June Hardawick, Esq. took place, following with the invocation delivered by Pastor James O. Bowman Sr. and the presentation of the juneteenth flag by SFC(R) Albert McDonald.
The audience all joined in song of ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’ and was treated to a show of talent by Ms. Chiquilla Pearson who put on a stunning performance of an African dance.
The event is scheduled to end at 7 p.m. Don’t miss your chance to come join in the celebration.
