K-9 Officer Blake Scallions made a traffic stop on Monday evening that resulted in a significant drug bust.

On Monday, August 7, at about 6:30 p.m. Scallions saw a blue SUV with Michigan plates that had expired. He executed a traffic stop on Pemberton Boulevard near Popeye’s Chicken. The SUV pulled into the driveway across from the restaurant. Inside the vehicle were six individuals working in town and staying at a nearby motel. Scallions, with assistance from other VPD units, detained all six and conducted a search of the individuals. One, an unnamed male, had a significant amount of marijuana and cocaine on his person.

Almost 50 grams of marijuana and almost 30 grams of crack cocaine were recovered from the suspect and he was taken into custody. After a search of the vehicle, no other drugs were found and the other five individuals were released.

Top Cop

In May of 2022, Scallions was awarded Mississippi’s Top Cop award. “I owe so many people for getting chosen as a “Top Cop” in the state of Mississippi… This award is dedicated to every person who has had my back throughout my childhood all the way up to now… I’m forever grateful!” said a humble Scallions.

He joined the VPD, “…soon as I could,” in March of 2020, saying, “If it wasn’t for the shift I am on now, I wouldn’t be half the officer that I am,” Scallions said. “Lt. Trueheart, Sgt. Williams and the whole shift are amazing.  They’re always there for me.  We’re always there for each other.”

Scallions was also featured in our ongoing series, “Those Who Keep Us Safe.”
