Katie Sowers will make history on Feb. 2, 2020, as the first female coach to reach the Super Bowl.

Sowers, 33, is an offensive assistant coach with the San Francisco 49ers and has been with the team since 2017. She began her career there as a seasonal offensive assistant coach and was put on the permanent staff last year.

Before she began coaching, Sowers was a member of the Women’s Football Alliance for five seasons.

Sowers is part of a very small club. In all, the NFL counts 10 women coaches among its ranks, with only three on staff full time.

On Sunday, Feb. 2, Sowers will take the 49ers onto the field against the Kansas City Chiefs in the 54th Super Bowl at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.
