Kerr Named Police Chief of the Vicksburg-Warren School District

Vicksburg, Ms –LaToria Kerr has been officially named Police Chief of the Vicksburg-Warren School District. Her appointment was made official on Thursday after the VWSD School Board voted unanimously in her favor which makes her the first female VWSD Police Chief.

Kerr will replace Dewayne Sims Sr. who recently retired last month after 20 years on the job. 

She began her law enforcement career back in 2009 with the Vicksburg Police Department, working in juvenile investigations. Three years later, she joined the Vicksburg-Warren School District as a School Resource Officer and has held that position for the past 12 years.

Chief Kerr is also a D.A.R.E. Instructor(Drug Abuse Resistance Education). In 2019 she was selected as State of Mississippi D.A.R.E. Instructor of the Year.

Originally from Brookhaven, Mississippi, Chief Kerr has a Political Science Degree from Alcorn State University and a Master’s Degree from Delta State University in Criminology and Social Justice. 

She will oversee the school resource officers and ensure the safety of students within the school district.

Chief Kerr is the mother of two girls.
