Missy Gators softball player Lexi Kistler has been named as the Vicksburg Daily News’ Softball Player of the Year.

Kistler came in clutch on multiple occasions for the Missy Gators this past season on both the offensive and defensive side.

The sophomore was highly noticed for her great pitching ability this year as she sent multiple batters back to the dugout after delivering many strikeouts.

One of her best pitching performances was in a 10-6 win over Franklin County where she threw eight strikeouts in the huge victory for her team. She continued to be a great team player even at time where she share the mound with teammate Madelyn McAdam who came in to finish the games at time.

Although Kistler had amazing games by pitching the ball, she was also a threat at the plate where she had a .400 batting average along with 15 RBIs.

In her final game of the season, she homered on her first pitch to keep the Missy Gators alive in the game. She helped VHS to an 11-13 season this year under head coach Brian Ellis.

Ellis put his trust in the young athlete to lead her team, and she did just that by playing her heart out and leaving it all out on the field.

After receiving the news of her award, Kistler was very excited and honored fir being chosen.

“Wow, oh my gosh HOW EXCITING! I have played with and against so many great players this year that I am very honored to be chosen for this! I do have to thank my family and my coaches for always pushing me to BE BETTER! Thank y’all again for this! And GO GATORS!”

Kistler is now the first athlete to receive the VDN Player of the Year Award for softball and her best days are still ahead of her as she still has two more seasons to star for the Missy Gators.
