Lady Flashes came in close with Central Holmes in a 7-6 loss on Thursday

St. Aloysius lost a close one in their season opener to Central Holmes Christian on Thursday with a final score of 7-6.

Kyleigh Cooper and Megan Theriot got things started early for the Lady Flashes by both getting a hit in the first inning. Ruthie Britton stepped up and got an RBI. Cooper then stole a base at home to put St. Al up 2-0.

Before the end of the first inning, Britton scored on a wild pitch, putting the Lady Flashes in a 3-0 lead.

Cooper struck out three straight batters when CH came to bat, allowing the Flashes to maintain their lead.

The Lady Flashes went up 4-0 after Maddy McSherry was hit by a pitch in the second.

Central Holmes scored from two errors in the fourth, along with a single, to narrow the Lady Flashes’ lead to 4-3. St. Al went up 6-3 in the fifth inning after Theriot was hit by a pitch and Britton scored on a wild pitch.

The Trojans managed two runs in the fifth. Rylee Sizemore singled to put the score at 6-5.

CH took the 7-6 win after a hit by Daynie Parish and a score from an error,

Cooper struck out 11 on the night and Theriot went perfect at the plate by going 3 for 3. Britton got two hits while Cooper and Abby Mikulski got one. Britton, McSherry and Theriot each had one RBI.

The Lady Flashes will play again on Saturday at the MRA Tournament.
