Lady Vikes finished Friday night with a 53-32 win over Port Gibson
Vicksburg, Miss.-Warren Central High School girls’ basketball team picked up their second win of the season on Friday as they defeated Port Gibson High School 53-32.
“Tonight went good because we came out and played hard,” Camara Evans said. “I was a little nervous at first because this is my old team but I think it all turned out well.”
The Lady Vikes started things off right as Ballet Duty and Madison Ward got on the board quickly to give WC a 12-2 first-quarter lead. By halftime, the Lady Vikes were up 27-4 after Ana Bridges knocked down a crucial 3-pointer while Arrionna Jenkins couldn’t be stopped inside the paint.
Coming out of halftime, Port Gibson found their spark on offense as Ger’Kiya Flowers and Kanaja Murray hit 3-pointers. The Blue Waves scored 21 points in the third quarter but WC still went ahead 43-25 after Jenkins and Camara Evans took over things.
WC shared the ball around in the final quarter as Ward, Keasia Williams, Evans, and Ka’Ryn Henderson all got on the board. The game ended with a nice layup by Morgan Jones to give the Lady Vikes the 53-32 win.
“We’re a different team this year and we hustled all game and did everything we were supposed to do,” Jenkins said.
Jenkins led WC with 13 points and Evans added 12 on the board. Ward finished with seven points while Duty, Williams, and Bridges all scored five points each. Arielle Ward, Jones, and Henderson each had two points in the win.
For PG, Flowers led with 13 while Murray and Kennaja Goods both had eight.
