WC grabbed a close 6-5 win over Pearl on senior night against Pearl on Monday.

“I feel great we been working towards it all season so it’s been paying off and it’s really exciting to win a game on senior night but I just really want to say thank you to my family and my coaches,” senior Annalyn Nevels said.

The Lady Vikes went up 3-0 in the first inning after Abby Morgan and Kayleigh Karel both got RBIs to start the game.

After scoring on a line drive and a wild pitch, Pearl narrowed WC’s lead to 3-2 in the third inning. Neither WC or Pearl got a run score in the fourth inning with the game staying tight.

The Lady Vikes would maintain their 3-2 lead in the fifth until J. Coleman got a home run that  brought in two scores for the Lady Pirates as they took a 4-3 lead.

A pitching change would bring Nevels on the rubber for the remainder of the game.

WC was caught in a bind late in the sixth inning still down 4-3 with two outs then all of a sudden Kayleigh Karel swung hard and and got a big hit as two Lady Vikes ran in for scores with WC going up 5-4.

The Lady Pirates tied things up at five in the seventh inning which left WC a chance to still take home the win.

With the bases being loaded in the seventh, Jenn Smith singled on a 0-1 count as Jill Smith ran in for the final score to end the night with WC winning 6-5.

Mary Evelyn Hossley, Jenn Smith, and Karel each had two hits on the night while Jill Smith and Kamryn Morson both had one hit. Karel led with three RBIs as Lola Crozier, Jenn Smith, and Abby Morgan each had one.

Morgan struck out four batters and Nevels struck out two in the win.
