Warren Central High School girl’s basketball team took a 44-42 loss to Terry on Monday.

The Lady Vikes had a slow start as Jae’la Smith and Zion Harvey got them on the board in the first quarter as they trailed 15-5.

WC woke up in the second quarter beginning with a 3-pointer by Ta’Mya Sims while Harvey got two tough layups and drew a couple of fouls. Sims popped another 3-pointer with 2:29 left in the half and just before halftime Harvey knocked down a 3-pointer as well to narrow Terry’s lead to 26-21.

Coming out of halftime, Harvey and Jefferies both came out with big shots to bring WC back into the game. A steal and score by Harvey would leave the Lady Vikes only trailing by one until Smith knocked down two free throws to give WC a 35-34 lead going into the fourth.

Down 40-37 late in the fourth quarter, Jefferies hit a nice shot and Harvey followed with a 3-pointer. A few missed free throws in the final couple of minutes would hurt WC as they eventually loss the game by two.

Harvey led WC with 18 points and Smith added 10. Jefferies ended the night with six points. Taylor Dumno led Terry with 13 points and Elisiah Branson added 12.

WC will play in a consolidation game on Friday at 4:00 p.m.against the loser of Pearl and Northwest Rankin.
