Law enforcement mourns the death of Vicksburg officer Beverly Prentiss

The Vicksburg and Warren County law enforcement community is mourning the loss of one of their own.

Longtime Vicksburg Police Officer Beverly Prentiss passed away at her home overnight. She was 64.

A sobbing Chief Milton Moore said Prentiss “was a wonderful person who helped train so many of us.”

Prentiss retired as a lieutenant a few years ago only to return to the department last year to work in court services. She was instrumental in the development of the department’s early efforts to combat domestic violence.

Moore said an official statement from the Vicksburg Police Department is forthcoming.

Lakeview Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
