Lawson joins UCA staff and continues her passion for cheering

Vicksburg native Alex Lawson is seeing her dreams come true by joining the staff at the Universal Cheer Association.
Lawson joined UCA a few months ago after training in Georgia. She is now heavily involved in helping high school and middle school cheerleaders put together their stunts and routines while also teaching the proper technique.
“It really doesn’t feel like a job to me because I’m enjoying the experience and being around people who share the same common goal,” Lawson said.
Since joining UCA, Lawson has completed four home camps and traveled to the University of Southern Mississippi where UCA had a camp of over 400 kids.
“I’m happy that I stepped out of my comfort zone and took my cheer opportunities to the next level and now I’m able to travel and meet new people but it’s something I definitely take pride in every day,” Lawson said.
Cheering since the fifth grade at the YMCA, Lawson continued to stick with it through junior high and high school. She graduated with honors from Warren Central in 2021 and was a captain of the girl’s basketball cheerleaders. She is now pre-med at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and continues to cheer. She was recently named to the president’s list for outstanding academics.
