Leslie Randall Wright Sr., 1952 to 2019

Leslie Randall Wright, Sr. passed through this life into God’s hands on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2019.

Known as Randy, Pop, Daddy, Poppy, and Pops to family and friends, he was born Jan. 21, 1952 to Henry Claiborne Wright, Sr. and Betty Davis Wright. He was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg while spending his early years in the Yokena community. He was a proud and true Cooper High School “Greenie,” playing football, baseball and running track.

After marrying his high school sweetheart, Rhonda Thomas, Randy worked for South Central Bell Phone Company for 9 ½ years. One day in April 1980, his uncle Gola “Goldie” Marshall gave him the opportunity to become the new owner of Goldie’s Trail Bar-b-que. Through a lot of hard work and long hours with the help of many family members, Randy succeeded in making Goldie’s the successful restaurant it is today.

Randy was an avid sportsman, loving hunting and fishing. He also had a strong belief in youth in baseball, football and basketball as a volunteer coach. After hanging up his whistle, he continued to encourage and support his grandchildren from the sidelines. He was a long-time member of the Red Carpet Bowl Committee.

Randy leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 49 years, Rhonda Thomas Wright; son, Leslie R. Wright “Randy”,Jr. and wife Jessica Bagley Wright; daughter, Rebecca Wright Antwine and husband, Mark Antwine; four grandchildren: Kaylee Claiborne Wright, Jackson “Jack” Randall Wright, Thomas Henry Antwine, and Mattie Sue Antwine; his brothers, David Wayne Province and Henry Claiborne Wright, Jr; sister, Leila Moore; and numerous family members from the Wright and Davis families.

Visitation will be at Riles Funeral Home Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. with funeral services following immediately. He will be interred in Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Riles Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Jamie Creel, Dr. Scurria, Joe Robertson, Bill Bagley, Tommy Duren, Gregory Thomas, Larry Kennon, and Shelby Crawford. Honorary pallbearers will be all past and present employees of Goldie’s, Dr. Paul Pierce, IV, Dr. Sam Pierce, Dr. Eugene Ferris, the staff of Doctors and nurses of the CVU/ICU at Merit Health-River Region, and Red Carpet Bowl Committee members.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to MS Delta Backwater Flood Relief, C/O United Way, 920 South St., Vicksburg, MS 39180 or to a favorite charity.

The family appreciates all the love, prayers, and encouragement received during Randy’s illness and the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff of CVU/ICU at Merit Health-river Region for their excellent care.
