Letter to Redwood Elementary Parents from Principal Randy Broome

Dear Parents, The Vicksburg Warren School District, along with the Corp of Engineers, has determined that Redwood Elementary has a significant chance of taking in water. In order to insure the safety of our students, the district has determined that it is in the student’s best interest to move the location of our classes from Redwood to Warren Central Intermediate and Sherman A venue Elementary. Your student will remain with his/her classroom and will remain with the same teacher. The only difference is in the location in which classes will be held. There are some strategic challenges in making this transition an easy one for our students, but we must ask for your flexibility and understanding as we face issues of safety such as arrival and dismissal. These schools have been most gracious in making areas available for us, and we do want to minimize the impact on both our schedules, which means we will be scheduling our arrival/dismissal times after theirs. Arrival: Buses: WC! & Sherman Avenue students will be released from buses prior to our buses arriving on campus. We estimate that Redwood students will be released from buses at 8:15 am. These students will go directly to the Gym, where they will be served breakfast. Car Riders: We are asking that car riders arrive no earlier than 8:00 am. This is very important so that your child will be with familiar faces and will feel secure in entering this new area, as well as giving these other schools the opportunity to safely unload their buses. Redwood car riders will turn right at the stop sign entering the lot and will use the “loop” at the entrance to WCI to unload your students. Students should have backpacks ready and exit the vehicle quickly to keep traffic moving smoothly. Dismissal: Buses: Redwood students will be dismissed to the buses at 3:30 pm. Buses will be dismissed from campus at 3:45 pm. Car Riders: Car riders will be dismissed at 3:15 pm. This is one area we really need your cooperation. We are asking that car riders not arrive on campus before 3:00 pm, and that students are not picked up through the office after 1:45 pm. This is crucial as to not interfere with the earlier dismissal of both other schools. In the afternoon we ask that you turn left at the stop sign and go toward the back of the building to pick up your students. Please realize that next week is MCT2 test week on Tuesday through Thursday. It is crucial that students in grades 3 – 6 are in attendance on those three days. We will be calling those students who may be absent those days. We know that this is confusing, and that you must have many questions. We are having an Emergency Parent Meeting Thursday, May 5, at the Sherman Avenue Gym at 6:00 pm to address any questions and concerns. Please try to make it there if at all possible. Sincerely, Randy Broome Principal]]]]> ]]>
