Now it’s on to pumping the water out.  There are three large pumps on site which are ready to go.

Officials anticipate it will take 12 to 18 hours to get the water out.  Once the water has been removed they will lay a rock base road to the site of the leak.  The rock road will protect the equipment from sinking in the silt filled and wet ground.

The ‘buckshot’ soil in this area makes digging an especially tough and risky adventure.  The city and officials with the construction companies believe the rock road will be adequate to the task.  If all goes well they should be able to dig 12 feet or so to the site of the water main break sometime Friday.

The cost of the emergency project is expected to be near $300,000.
