DRUG BUST

Just before 6 a.m., officers with the Vicksburg Police Department and Warren County Sheriff’s Office, including Chief Penny Jones & Sheriff Martin Pace, served a search warrant in Warren County that resulted in multiple arrests.

The officers were effecting an arrest warrant for Monrell Benard, 42, for sale of methamphetamine as well as a search warrant for his residence at 62 Margarite Drive in Warren County.

Benard ran on foot as officers arrived, but with the help of a K-9 officer, he was captured a short distance behind his home and taken into custody.

Benard was charged with possession of methamphetamine, sale of methamphetamine, and two counts of convicted felon in possession of a firearm.  Authorities recovered a 12 gauge shotgun and a 9mm handgun during their search.

Kaylee Breanne Jackson, 19, who also resided at the home, was arrested charged with possession of meth.

Both Benard and Jackson had warrants for violating drug court probation and have detainers placed on them from drug court.

Two other individuals at the scene were charged with misdemeanors, one of which was detained because it was found he had active warrants from the Vicksburg Police Department.

“This was an area that we have received multiple complaints on,” said Sheriff Pace. “In working with Vicksburg Police Department investigators, we believe that we have been able to eliminate at least one source of meth that has been feeding into not just Warren County, but the City of Vicksburg as well. This is a good example of cooperation between agencies to eliminate a problem within the community.”

Benard is looking at the possibility of significant time in the penitentiary, according to the Sheriff.
