Ken Rector, on behalf of Jacques Bar, has appealed to a federal judge after a shooting and stabbing incident took place within the location on Sunday.  In a complaint filed with the District Court, Refined South Restaurant Group LLC is challenging the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Vicksburg and seeking legal approval to reopen.

Early Sunday morning, a bar fight at Jacques Bar led to a stabbing and shooting. Two women were stabbed inside of the bar. The violence continued a few blocks away on Clay Street. According to the report, a SUV with three people inside of it began to open fire. One person was reported to have been shot. The incident was reported by WLBT and caught the attention of the mayor.

Jacques vs city

In a Board of Mayor and Alderman meeting on Tuesday, Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs, Jr. expressed his dismay with the state of the City of Vicksburg. According to Flaggs, the violence and late-night congregations have set a negative impression which was amplified by criminal activity recently reported on television media.

Alderman Mayfield echoed Flaggs disapproval of the status quo, “We want what’s good, we want what’s right and we want what’s fair for the citizens of this city.” He continued, “Now you and I see young people out there, 12, 13, 14-years-old at 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. That’s not right.

We all live in this community. We should not have to walk around in fear. We live here, we work here, we go to church here, we have families here and its not fair for us to allow this, as elected officials. The citizens are looking for us to do whatever it takes to stem what is going on.”

Flaggs referenced the amount of crime which took place within the city in just the previous two weeks and delivered an ultimatum, “If it gets like this next weekend, we’re shutting every club down until we learn to behave in a way that we can enjoy life.”

Vicksburg Daily News will follow this case and update as information becomes available.
