Local law enforcement agencies participating in drug take-back on Saturday

Each year in April the Drug Enforcement Agency partners with local law enforcement to host drug take back days to rid homes of medications in the hope that they don’t fall the wrong hands.
The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million people misused prescription stimulants, and 5.9 million people misused prescription tranquilizers or sedatives in 2019. The survey also showed that a majority of misused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.
The DEA’s Take Back Day events provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.
This Saturday, April 24, the Vicksburg Police Department will have representatives at the Walmart Parking Lot at 2150 Iowa Blvd. and Walgreens 3341 Halls Ferry Road. The Sheriff’s Office will have personnel stationed at the Outlet Mall. The hours are 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. These drop off locations will be operated in a drive-through manner.
In the event of inclement weather the event will be moved to the lobby of the police department. Please rid your homes and medicine cabinet of these dangerous substances. Items accepted include over-the-counter medication, vitamins, narcotics, and prescription medications.
