Local woman injured in street collapse at Farmer and Mundy

Published

A local woman received minor injuries when the ground underneath her car gave way. The road collapsed at Mundy and Farmer streets in Vicksburg causing the front end of her vehicle to enter the void.

The accident occurred just before 1 p.m. Thursday.

This photo from Christian Lancaster shows the pavement that collapsed.

Joann Roberts was about to make a right hand turn onto Mundy Street from Farmer when the pavement at the intersection caved in under the weight of her vehicle.

Vicksburg Water and Sewage department workers discovered a water leak from a 2-inch supply line. The 6-inch main water line was not damaged. By 3:20 p.m. the leak was repaired.

Christian Lancaster captured this photo as the main leak is detected.

Crews will return to the site today to finish repairs and also to do some minor repair work on the sewers and storm drains.
