There will be a one time showing of the Fellowship of the Ring, delighting fans at the Strand Theater Sunday afternoon. Jack Burns, who is well known for bringing unique entertainment to Vicksburg, is hosting the movie at 3 p.m. Fans are encouraged to dress as their favorite character from the books or films.

The Strand offers a variety of fun happenings ranging from live music to movie viewings, musical productions and beyond.

The theater was closed from March 2020 to June 2021 due to the pandemic. Entertainment that was put to a halt is finally picking up where it left off. The Strand holds its doors open weekly to put on productions and show movies among other interesting events.

The historic theater plays movies ranging from cult classics to foreign films and everything in between. This offers locals a quaint location to unwind in from a busy week. Guests are invited to kick back in cozy theater-style seating with snacks that can be purchased at concession. The Strand is the perfect location for a lazy Saturday or a rainy weekend afternoon.

Daniel Boone, Film Programmer and owner of the local coffee shop, Highway 61 Coffeehouse, stated, “We normally don’t show movies during the colder months because the weather is unpredictable. We can’t sufficiently heat the building if it’s cold but we have an agreement with some distributors to postpone movies when needed.”

When asked why it’s so important to bring entertainment to the community, Boone responded, “We could watch all the movies we want at home but I think it’s better to share things and that’s really what we’re doing is trying to make Vicksburg a place where things are happening. We don’t normally do this in January, but people just need things to do!” He let out a heart felt laugh.

Tickets for Lord of the Rings are on sale now for 10$ per person. Tickets to plays, movies, and events are always sold at 61 Coffeehouse during regular business hours. They are open between 7 a.m. – noon, Mondays through Fridays, and between 9 a.m. and noon on Saturdays.

You can visit strandvicksburg.com to join their email list where they will alert you to upcoming productions and postponed shows.
