Hinds sophomore participates in NASA internship

Hinds sophomore and Hinds Connection member Lorien Harvey, 19, of Raymond, recently attended the NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars program as an intern during the summer. This prestigious program was held at the Langley Research Center in Hampton, Va.
Harvey, set to graduate in Spring 2024, has plans for her future. She aims to transfer to Mississippi State University and major in Biosystems Engineering, emphasizing environmental science. The NASA program seemed tailor-made for her interests.
“I really liked how the program combined my two favorite subjects – biology and engineering,” Harvey said. “What I gained from the experience was that my dreams of going into space were not as far off as I thought they were. Now, I can see myself building robots and terraforming for a Mars space station.”
The NASA summer program offers participants a hands-on experience, simulating the challenges and excitement of working at NASA. Students engage in a series of missions designed to enhance their STEM capabilities, aligning with NASA’s goals, promoting collaboration, and offering a pathway to explore NASA careers.
