Lucille Whitaker Ross was born November 19, 1946, to Susie Whitaker Tolliver and Roosevelt Lee, Sr., in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She departed life on March 9, 2023, in Jackson, Mississippi, at University of MS Medical Center.

She was baptized at Mt. Olive MB Church at a very young age. Lucille grew up in Vicksburg, Mississippi, where she attended Lane’s Hill Elementary and Rosa A. Temple High School.

She was the mother of three children and was married to George Ross. Living in Vicksburg her whole life, she worked as a candy striper nurse at Kuhn Memorial Hospital and a bus driver with Vicksburg Warren School District. She also owned a small store, and did hair, as always, and ministered her own prayerline.

Her faith was her driving force for herself, and for her children and grandchildren. If you were ever around her, “faith” and “God” were going to happen in the conversation. She fed the elderly and went to nursing homes, singing and spreading the word with her grandkids in tow.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Susie Whitaker Tolliver and Roosevelt Lee; son, Larry D. Whitaker; brothers, Charlie Whitaker Tolliver, Johnny Whitaker Tolliver, and Gregory Whitaker Tolliver; Darnell Lee, Randy Lee, and Richard Lee.

She was survived by: sons, Jeffery (Sarah) and Kenneth (Sonya) Ross; sisters and brothers, Shirley Whitaker Tolliver, Phillip Lee (Erma), Dr. Pearletha Cox (Antoine), Clifford Lee (Gwen), Peggy Conway (Lester), Debra Lee, Anthony Lee (Erica), and James Lee (Juanita); grandkids, Jada Ross, Jamel Ross, Jazzmin Ross, Jassiah Ross, Elijah Ross, Jeramiah Ross, Mataya, Devin, and Donovan Whitaker; two great-grandkids, Donovan, Jr., and Cianna Whitaker; and numerous nieces , nephews, family members and friends.
