A Madison County inmate gained new charges on his record after continuing his drug trade from behind bars.

According to WLBT, Lucas Howard was found guilty by a jury of one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine.

In 2019, deputies began monitoring outgoing phone calls from the jail as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation. The sheriff’s department said Howard was using his girlfriend to continue his drug operation by directing her to buy drugs with the intent to sell them from Howard’s residence.

Howard’s girlfriend, Alissa Washington, was discovered to have been bringing cocaine back from Jackson in November, 2019. Officers discovered 26 grams after a traffic stop.
