Vicksburg firefighters and first responders responded to a major fire to the Landings Apartments, 501 Fairways Drive in Warren County at around 1:56 p.m. Monday.

Reportedly, everyone has escaped the unit involved, building 9, and there are no injuries.

First reports said a teenager was trapped within, but that individual has been accounted for.

Strong winds were fanning the flames, potentially endangering nearby buildings at the complex. Building 8 was evacuated and appears to have heat damage and probably smoke damage as well.

Building 9 was fully engulfed in the moments it took for firefighters to arrive and is a complete loss. Parts of the structure collapsed, and 23 tenants in the building have lost everything.

The cause of the fire is unknown or has not been released at this time.

The Culkin and Bovina Fire Departments were on the scene along with officials from the Vicksburg Fire and Police departments. Fisher Ferry Fire Department responded with air bottles for the firefighters. Other responders including the Red Cross and Entergy were called in to assist. Warren County officials were also on hand.

The amount of smoke generated by the fire was tremendous. (Photo by David Day)
