Man charged with capital murder of an unborn child

A Jackson man was taken into custody for capital murder on Wednesday by US Marshals.

46-year-old Carl Powell was arrested after allegedly shooting Terri Evans outside of Club Plush on Nov. 12.

At the time of the shooting, Evans was eight weeks pregnant and it was confirmed that she lost the baby as a result of the shooting.

Powell’s charges were eventually upgraded from aggravated assault to capital murder after the death of Evans’ unborn child.
