Man charged with kidnapping in domestic violence case
Just before 3 a.m. today, Nov. 22, Warren County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic call on Cumberland Road. When deputies arrived on scene, they found an adult female who had been assaulted.
Also on scene was Kenneth Dewayne Bingham, 32, of 141 Cumberland, said Sheriff Martin Pace.
Deputies attempted to arrest Bingham for simple assault, domestic violence, which is a misdemeanor; however, as they were handcuffing him, Bingham broke away and ran from deputies with one wrist in cuffs. Deputies captured him moments later.
The subsequent investigation revealed that Bingham had picked up the victim at her place of employment in Flowers where she works at a manufacturing plant. Bingham allegedly took her from there against her will. As a result, Bingham was charged with kidnapping in addition to the misdemeanor assault and escape.
The victim is someone with whom he once had a relationship.
At his initial appearance in Warren County Justice Court today, Bingham was held on a bond of $25,000 for the kidnapping charge.
The domestic violence and escape charges will be prosecuted after the felony. The accused also had a retainer placed on him for over $7,000 in previous fines from misdemeanor convictions.
