Man crashes stolen vehicle then steals good Samaritan’s truck
On Christmas Eve, a good Samaritan stopped to help the victim of a crash, who then stole his truck.
At around 8:30 p.m. on Fisher Ferry Road just over the Claiborne County line, a white SUV left the road and crashed into the wooded embankment off the northbound lane.
Witnesses to the crash stopped to render aid to the driver, who told them his wife was trapped in the vehicle. While the good Samaritans were rushing to help, the the man took off in one of the rescuer’s Ford Ranger pickup truck and fled south toward Utica. A group of witnesses went in pursuit of the thief.
Multiple Claiborne County and Warren County authorities responded to the scene of the crash, and they did not locate a woman in the vehicle or around the scene. Authorities have determined that the wrecked SUV had been stolen as well.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Engines 302, and 306 from Fisher Ferry Fire Department responded to render aid along with Fire Coordinator Jerry Briggs. Deputies Daniel Thomas and Thomas McBride were also on the scene.
