An inmate at the Lawrence County jail took a short trip home to see his mama before returning to jail and turning himself in.

No one knew he had escaped.

Juantez Lyons, of Silver Creek, Miss., used a towel and his pants to get over razor wire after walking out the back door of the jail Saturday night, reports The Daily Leader. Lyons was in jail due to multiple burglary and traffic charges.

When he came back six hours later, he couldn’t get back in.

“He returned back to the jail and said he’d been locked out,” Lawrence County Undersheriff Brian Rayborn told the paper. “After an investigation, he did escape, and he did return himself back to the jail for some reason. So he could see his mother is what he told us.”

Rayborn said the jailer on duty at the time has been fired, and the escape has been added to the list of charges Lyons faces.
