Margeret Sue Boyd obituary
Margeret Sue Boyd (Glenwood Funeral Home)

Margeret Sue Marler Boyd, age 76, passed from this Earth to her Heavenly home on Oct. 26. Sue was born Nov. 16, 1945, to her parents Annie Adelle Marler and George Martin Marler in Hazelhurst, MS. After graduating from H.V. Cooper High in 1963 in Vicksburg, Sue went on to receive a technical degree from Hinds Community College in 1964. Sue married her husband and best friend Tommy Alfred Boyd Mar. 20, 1964, at Bowmar Avenue Baptist Church in Vicksburg. Sue and Tommy went on to have three children: Annie Louise Wigley, Joseph Monroe Boyd, and Martin Thomas Boyd.

For over 38 years, Sue was a homemaker for her husband and children who meant more to her than money or wealth. In 1973, Sue began swimming lessons with The American Red Cross. She went on to become a basic swim instructor and a water safety instructor. She served as the Director of The Red Cross Swimmers Program for 7 years and continued to teach countless adults and children swimming lessons until 2005. For her service and dedication to The American Red Cross, she was awarded the American Red Cross Clara Barton Award.

When she was not teaching water safety, Sue could be found serving The Boy Scouts of America. She served as a Den Mother to Cub Scout Pack 104 for many years. During her time with the Boy Scouts, Sue participated in many committees and director roles. She was awarded the Andy Award and the National Merit of Honor Award from the Andrew Jackson Council for her contributions to the Boy Scouts of America from 1974-1986. During her evenings and weekends, Sue was a happy and welcoming face while scorekeeping for the City of Vicksburg Softball League. She never met and stranger and always had a smile on her face.

Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband Tommy Boyd, father George Marler, Mother Adelle Marler, brothers William Marler, Billy Ray Marler, Ronald Marler, and grandson Michael Perrier.

Sue is survived by her three children: Louise Wigley (Doug), Joey Boyd (Kim), and Marty Boyd. Grandchildren (10): LeAnne Adcock (Corey), Maggie Barnes (Corey), Russell Wigley (Carmen), Nikki Perrier (Josh), Lyndsey Wigley, Heather Arnold (Robert), Thomas Haynes (Kiera), Shelby Massey, Elizabeth Anne Boyd, and Zachary Boyd. As well as her prided Great Grandchildren (12): Deason, Boyd, Kailyn, Miers, Jaxon, Cade, Renni, Alyssa, Noah, Brayden, Kory, and Ryleigh.

Services will be Tuesday, Nov. 1, at noon at Glenwood Funeral Home with visitation from 10 a.m. to noon with Rev. Dwight Sibley officiating.

As she always said, I’ll see you later Sweetpea.
