Marie Gray, 1964 – 2023
Listen to this articleMarie Gray was born to David Gray, Jr., and the late Mary Valentine Gray on February 29, 1964, in Eagle Lake, MS.
Marie was a member of Greater Grove Street M.B. Church where she served in the church choir. She was a graduate of Vicksburg High School, Class of 1982, and later attended Hinds Community College. She later married Alfred Smith, they shared two sons.
She was preceded in death by her brother, David Gray; grandparents, Dave Gray, Sr., and Rubena Slaughter Gray, Henry Sr. and Naomi Washington Valentine; and other loved ones.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her two sons, Alfred Jamere (Jaleesa) Smith of Vicksburg, MS, and Jaron Rashaad (Alexandria) Smith of Brandon, MS; two brothers, Jerome T. Gray and David Gray III of Vicksburg, MS; two sisters, Dianne (Ernest) Young and Lora Gray of Vicksburg, MS; four grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives as well as three special friends, Sallie Grimes Winters, Rose Hampton, and Angela Williams.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Marie Gray Smith on May 20, 2023, 2:00 PM at Greater Grove Street M. B. Church, 2715 Alcorn Dr. , Vicksburg, MS .
Visitation will be held at C J Williams Mortuary Services, 4310 Halls Ferry Road, Vicksburg, MS on May 19, 2023 from 1:00 – 6:00 PM with family present from 4:00 – 6:00 PM.
Marie Gray Smith transitioned on May 15, 2023 at the age of 59.
