[Editor’s note: This obituary was written by a family member and has been left unedited]
Yesterday evening shorty after dusk turned to night, my sweet sweet mother n law passed from this life to the next.
Whether you knew her as Ms. Mary, momma, mamaw, mom or old granny…you knew someone very special.
For me personally I knew her as ‘mom’. I remember the first time I met her. I can remember thinking, how beautiful she was. In my mind she was a mixture of a southern Queen Elizabeth and Mrs. Santa.
She was the mom of 3 boys- who she loved unconditionally and beyond measure. When she spoke of them, you knew in an instant..in her eyes, each one of them are perfect!
With 3 sons.. come daughter n laws. She accepted each of us as her own.. and loved us, just as her sons love us.
She could cook without recipes, sew without a sewing machine, and garden from daylight till dark. She could not make a TV remote work. And never once, did she just answer the phone without looking at the incoming number.
She loved crossword puzzles, romantic fiction…and was probably the most dedicated fan of the tv show ‘survivor’.
She loved good coffee, fresh baked cookies and afternoon naps. She loved to shop, and enjoyed a good hair-do…and looked catalog perfect when she left the house.
During the first week of November…every November, for over 50 years you could find her in the kitchen putting together the most decadent layers of love! A birthday cake, for one of her own. Most would know it simply as a German chocolate cake, but I’m telling you it was so much more! A certain flour, the perfect chocolate…and time! A few years back she passed this tradition to me, it was only then that I realized how special this cake truly was, and yes I do know the secret ingredient.
Her 93 year ‘dash’ started on June the 2nd, 1928. Born the second of 12 children in Silver Creek Ms. She met and married Marvin in 1945. They began their family in 1946 with the arrival of their first son, Marvin Lee, Clyde in 1950 and John in..1955
Mom is preceded in death by her husband- Marvin, her oldest son Marvin Lee, and a great granddaughter Andrea Beard.
She is survived by her sons Clyde (Cindy), John (Kathy) daughter in law Laura Roberson, as a large blended family she leaves behind
12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
