Mayor and Board of Aldermen appoint deputy chiefs
The Mayor and Board of Aldermen met Tuesday, July 6, for their first formal meeting of the new elected term and confirmed the appointments of deputy chiefs for the Vicksburg Police Department.
Last week, Mayor Flaggs publicly announced his recommendations for deputy chief positions at the Vicksburg Police Department including current VPD Internal Affairs Investigator/Accreditation Manager Mike Bryant and former Deputy Director of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety Charlie Hill.
Bryant has worked with the Vicksburg Police Department for 28 years and has served as internal affairs investigator/accreditation manager, watch commander, commander of the support services division, patrol sergeant, field training officer, and patrolman. Bryant holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and has received specialized law enforcement training from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy, Center for Domestic Preparedness, Public Agency Training Council and Institute for Police Technology and Management.
Hill has worked with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety as a lieutenant/deputy director and lieutenant/director of sex offender registry. He also worked with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations as a master sergeant/investigator, the Drug Enforcement Administration as a task force agent, the Mississippi Highway Patrol as a state trooper, and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics as a narcotics agent. Early in his career, Hill worked with the Vicksburg Police Department as a patrol officer. He studied Criminal Justice and has received training from the State of Mississippi and Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and was recognized as a Top Cop in 2012 for Outstanding Performance and Leadership, Enforcement Officer and Trooper of the Year in 2005, and Officer of the Year at the Vicksburg Police Department in 1999.
Mayor Flaggs previously announced his recommendation for Deputy Chief of Homicide and Gang Prevention as Troy Kimble. Kimble has worked with Vicksburg Police Department as a lieutenant, the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office as chief investigator, has served as Warren County Central District Constable, and is a former candidate for Mayor of Vicksburg who was defeated by incumbent George Flaggs, Jr. on Tuesday, June 8, after receiving 25% of the vote.
