Mayor Flaggs turns 69 years old today

Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs Jr turns 69 years old on Sunday.
Born March 20, 1953 in Edwards, Mississippi, Flaggs was first elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives in 1988 where he would spend the next 25 years serving the state of Mississippi.
During his two and a half decades as a state legislature, Flaggs would serve on various committees including Banking and Financial Services, Public Health and Human Services and Rules, and the Legislative Budget Committee.
In 2013, after spending twenty five years in the state legislature Flaggs ran for Mayor for the city of Vicksburg.
Nine years later, Flaggs has focused on economic development, bringing jobs to the city of Vicksburg while securing major grants worth millions of dollars.
Throughout his time as Mayor, Flaggs has led Vicksburg through the 2017 water crisis, 2021 snow storm, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
At nearly 70 years old, the Jackson State University graduate is still standing strong and committed to making Vicksburg the best in the state, often joking about moving the capital to Vicksburg. He was recently named as the fifth most influential leader in the state.
Flaggs is in the second year of his third term as Mayor.
