The office has been vacant since last December, when former county prosecutor Ken Harper left office more than three months after submitting his resignation. Harper resigned suddenly in September of last year and attempted to reverse his resignation a few days later.

The Board of Supervisors eventually accepted his resignation and has appointed McMillin to serve as interim Prosecuting Attorney until November, when a special election will fill the position permanently.

The last election took place in 2019, when McMillin ran against Harper and the incumbent prosecutor, Ricky Johnson.  A special election in November 2021 will determine who will serve the remainder of the current term, which ends in 2023.

McMillin is a Vicksburg native who has been an attorney in Warren County for over ten years. He has also served as one of the city of Vicksburg’s Municipal Court Prosecutors.

The County Prosecuting Attorney represents the state in all investigations of felony cases in justice court and county court and in all criminal cases appealed to the circuit court from county court.  The county prosecutor also assists the District Attorney, presents matters to the county grand jury and is involved in some youth court proceedings.
