McQuarter named MACJC Player of the Week
Sophomore forward Dontrell McQuarter, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was named the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges Player of the Week for his performances against Copiah-Lincoln Community College and East Central Community College the week of Jan. 20.
Against Co-Lin, McQuarter played 38 minutes and racked up 25 points while making 10 of his 14 shots from the field (71.4%). McQuarter also collected nine rebounds, one assist and one steal in Hinds 79-80 overtime loss to Co-Lin.
Against ECCC, McQuarter collected his second double-double of the season as he tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds. McQuarter went five for nine (55.5%) shooting from the field, and four for four (100%) from the free-throw line. Additionally, McQuarter collected four assists, one steal, and one block as he led Hinds to a 71-54 victory.
In total, McQuarter played 66 minutes, scored 39 points, tallied 19 rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block for Hinds last week.
On the season, McQuarter leads the Hinds Bulldogs with 213 points scored, 15.2 points per game and 386 minutes played.
“Dontrell (epitomizes) the type of person and player we try to recruit and build at Hinds,” head coach Yusef Fitzgerald said. “He strives for excellence both in the classroom and on the court, and he puts in the time that is necessary to achieve that excellence.
I am so proud of him. If I had a daughter, I would hope she would end up with someone like Dontrell.”
Fans can catch McQuarter in action Thursday, Jan. 30, at home in Utica as Hinds (9-5, 4-3) hosts the Southwest Mississippi Community College Bears (10-6, 4-3) at 7:30 p.m. in the J.D. Boyd Gymnasium.
