With a lengthy history of being a hospital during the Civil War, a home to several people since its origin in 1797 and the place of death for at least five of its owners, the McRaven Tour Home, 1445 Harrison St., is now known as the most haunted house in Mississippi and the third most haunted place in America.

For years the home has welcomed school groups, ghost hunters and history buffs to witness the extensive history and paranormal aspects of the antebellum home year round.

This year, in addition to its regular tours, the house will be hosting candle-light tours as well to usher in Halloween.

“People will actually get to walk through the house, and we have five different characters inside the house who will tell you their story,” said tour guide Bethany Crocker. “They’ll be talking about how they lived and how they died. They tell you the story about their lives and what happened to them while they were living here in the house.”

Upcoming tour dates are Oct. 25, 26 and 31, and tickets are $25 per person. Each tour begins promptly at 7 p.m. and ends no later than 10 p.m. During these tours, guests will be guided through the home with only a candle to light their path.

“If you don’t come, then not only are you missing out on seeing the house, but you’re also missing out on getting to experience what these people were like and how they lived,” Crocker said.

For more information on this event and to purchase tickets visit mcraventourhome.com or call 601-501-1336.

“We’ve had some really good turnouts with our tours, and each time we have one it helps to save the house,” Crocker said. “You get to learn about the history of the house and about the people who lived in it as well.”
