MDOT explains road closures and how long they will take

Eric Morgan with MDOT explains the road work being done and gives the estimated time it will take to complete the bridge railing work being done on I-20 in Vicksburg.
The bridges under repair are the Old Hwy 27 bridge and the two Clay Street bridges that are over I-20.
“Right now we have the right lane closed, westbound, and they’re going to have to replace the concrete bridge railing on those three bridges (Old 27, and both Clay Street bridges). We’re thinking about 3 months to get those three bridges done,” explained Morgan.
“Then we’re going to close the inside lanes, eastbound and westbound, and work on the inside railing of the bridges both ways.” Morgan went on to say, “that should take, I don’t know, maybe 4 months, 4 to 5 months since they’re doing 6 rails. Then they’ll close the outside rails eastbound and that should take just a couple of months since it’s just two bridges. So, yeah, it’s gonna be a problem for most of this year.”
When asked about Old Hwy 27, under the bridges, “I’m hoping about 6 months for it. That railroad bridge over Old Hwy 27, there’s a lot of work they have to do. Encasing the piles up under it is a bunch of work. They’re going to have cranes down there. So, I’m hoping once we finish with that bridge they should be able to reopen the road up under there.”
The work being done on the bridge rails and frontage roads is part of a multi-year project to upgrade I-20 in Warren County. The long-term plan includes new entrance and exit ramps to replace the current ones.
Please use extra caution if you are traveling through the area to allow work crews to safely complete the tasks as quickly as possible.
