Medical Examiner: Teen football standout struck by train was a suicide

The death of a Florida high school football standout who had signed with Georgia Tech has been ruled a suicide.
Bryce Gowdy, 17, was stuck by a freight train on Monday, Dec. 30, 2019, just a week before he would start classes at Georgia Tech. Gowdy was pronounced dead at the hospital, and the Broward County (Fla.) medical examiner has ruled the death a suicide.
Gowdy was a standout athlete at Deerfield Beach High School in Deerfield, Fla., where he helped his team to a 10-4 record. Reportly, he received more than 30 scholarship offers to play ball from schools across the country.
”Our entire Georgia Tech football family is devastated by the news of Bryce’s passing,”said Georgia Tech head coach Geoff Collins in a statement. “Bryce was an outstanding young man with a very bright future. He was a great friend to many, including many of our current and incoming team members.”
Gowdy graduated high school a semester early so that he could begin training for college football.
A gofundme account has raised over $65,000 for family.
