MHP begins Labor Day travel enforcement period

The Mississippi Highway Patrol will increasing patrols for the upcoming holiday weekend, WLBT reports.

Beginning on Friday, September 3 at 12:01 a.m., the Labor Day travel enforcement period will begin and continue until midnight on September 6. During this period, MHP will be taking part in Operation Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort (CARE) to enforce traffic laws and reduce crashes. Troopers will be assigned to saturation patrols to enforce speeding laws and combat distracted driving.

Safety checkpoints will be established throughout this time to promote seat belt usage and remove impaired drivers from the roadways.

According to the report, MHP states during the 2020 Labor Day travel enforcement period, 121 crashes and seven fatalities were investigated, along with 184 arrests for DUI.
