MHP investigating abandoned crashed vehicle on Highway 61 South

Just before 8:30 a.m. authorities were notified of a vehicle which appeared to have collided with a tree on Highway 61 South, near the Black River bridge.

The vehicle, a white Chevrolet SUV, seemed to have veered from the east side of the highway to the west and left the roadway. The SUV came to a halt after hitting a tree.

When authorities arrived on scene, the vehicle seemed to be abandoned. Initial reports indicate an ID was recovered at the location.

Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
